Campaign Chunk – Event – The Siege of Myrandi

Mobius 18th June 2014 3 minutes read

Almost 500 years ago, the fortress of Myrandi guarded the only pass through the mountains to the kingdom of Reven. standing over 10 floors high, with numerous sub-basments. Walls almost 10 foot thick, with placements for weapons and defences any castle would be proud of. Four huge towers lined with ballistae and catapults. Numerous arrow slots and places for oil and other equipment made the fortress impress and intimidating.

This fortress stood for over 200 years before it fell. Just before it was breached, it was the site of a famous siege that lasted almost 6 months. Then, one night, to the surprise of the troops and especially the enemy commander, the gates opened. Having been told by his ruler to take the fortress by the summer solstice, which was 2 weeks away, the commander had to take the chance.

Suspecting a trap, but having no other choice, the commander led a raid into the fortress. As it turns out the ones within was just as surprised by the troops storming through the gate and were caught sleeping. The stones ran red with their blood and the fortress and the kingdom it protected was lost.

Hooks & Rumours

  • One legend is that the original designer of Myrandi was the one who leaked the plans of the fortress to the enemy, allowing them to breach the walls.
  • One study of the orignal plans revealed that the gates opening was due to a design flaw and a lucky shot aggravated this effect, causing the gates to open. As another important and still in use fortress is based on the same design, this flaw must be investigated to determine if true and nor be revealed if it is.
  • Someone is claiming to be a descendant of the commander who led the siege, when it was well-known that the commander had no children.
  • The present location of Myrandi is being renovated to become a museum and tourist attraction. The huge sub-basesments need to be investigated and cleared out of creatures who have moved in and made it their home.
