Definitions for what makes a secret society , according to one definition, is they “generally rely on the degree to which the organization insists on secrecy and might involve the retention and transmission of secret knowledge, the denial of membership or knowledge of the group, the creation of personal bonds between members of the organization, and the use of secret rites or rituals.”
They may be secret and not known by many, a “secret”, in that they don’t advertise as such but are known or suspected to exist to many, even if how to join them is unknown, such as the infamous Illuminati.
Whoever they are they are, they all have a name of some kind, even if it’s one given to them by those outside the group.
